To suppress a fire you first have to detect it. Concept Fire Suppression Ltd is trained to design a vast array of detection systems to sit along side the Fire Suppression System. From basic conventional smoke and heat detector to flame detectors, from intelligent smoke, heat detectors to VESDA detection and from fusible links to industrial heat detectors there are few applications that we can’t find a way of detecting a fire reliably.
Once the fire has been detected the control equipment must alert the operators locally through sounders or message sounders as well as to the wider building users through interfaces into the main fire alarm system. Then operate the Fire Suppression System to ensure the system protects the risk with minimal damage from a fire.
Most systems are designed using the coincidence principal (sometimes called Double Knock) in that two devices from two different zones must be activated before the system is discharged. The first detector causes an alert (first stage) situation which will be the operation of sounders and beacons and actuation of the main fire system to inform users of a possible fire. If another device on another zone goes into fire the system is at “second stage” and within 30 seconds (standard delay timer) the gas or agent will be discharged.
Using the reliable range of conventional smoke and heat detectors from Hochiki Concept Fire Suppression Ltd are confident that most users will have a reliable, fault free system. For smoke detectors we use an optical smoke detector and not a mixture of optical and ionisation as the SLR-e is equal to the ionisation range and many manufacturers are discontinuing using them due the radioactive material contained within them.
For larger rooms Concept Fire Suppression Ltd use the Hochiki intelligent range which is more flexible in cable design and device allocation thereby cutting down on materials and the time taken to install.
VESDA systems designed by Concept Fire Suppression Ltd mean that early warning of a fire can be detected ensuring early intervention and thereby reducing still further the damage that can be done by smoke and fire. Coincidence can be designed between two VESDA systems within a room or between a conventional or intelligent detection system depending upon the risk level of the asset. VESDA can be used in certain harsh environments by utilising the filters to ensure reliable detection of a fire with minimum false alarms. Each environment will need to be assessed and taken on its own merits.
For other harsh conditions such as restaurants, industrial processing such as recycling plant or tarmac coating plants and manufacturing such as computer controlled milling machine. Restaurants systems use fusible links which are two metal plates joined using solder which melts at a preset temperature. Various temperatures are available.
For other harsh conditions we would use Industrial Heat Detectors, Linear Heat Cable and or IR Flame Detectors. They can also be used in combination such as a Flame Detector as primary detection and Industrial Heat Detectors as a back up.
Controls and Indicating Equipment
Concept Fire Suppression Ltd uses the Kentec range of control panels known as a very reliable, flexible and good value for money. The Sigma XT and XT+ standard control panels range from 3 Zone 1 Area control panel to 8 Zone 4 Area control panel with ancillaries such as Remote Status Indicators and Hold Off Switch Units to match. These panels will interface all the detection and sounders effectively and economically except for the intelligent devices which require the Syncro XT and XT+.
The Syncro XT and XT+ provide very flexible detection using loops for detection and assigned zones, loop powered sounders and beacons which cut down greatly on the cable and therefore installation time. All detection can be interfaced into an intelligent system including all conventional detection. Ancillaries such as Remote Status Indicators match with the control panel.
Once the fire has been detected Concept Fire Suppression Ltd must then ensure that you are alerted to the detected incident. This can be done in the most basic format using electronic sounders or bells and beacons. The first detection of a fire is indicated by sounders/bells and beacons (first stage) and the second detection on a different zone is indicated by a different noise which can either be a different sounder or a bell.
Concept Fire Suppression believe that the future way to signal the state of a Fire Suppression System is to use speaking sounders such as the Fire-Cryer ® This leaves no doubt as to the alert from the system, whether first or second stage. There are so many different sounds around us from both within your building as well as outside, many people working do not even know what the building fire alarm sounds like. The Fire-Cryer® will leave no doubt as to what is happening thereby making people react quicker to the incident and reducing the risk to them as well as the cost of damage to your asset.
