New guidance documents on standards for fire detection and alarm systems have been published by the Fire Industry Association (FIA).
Fact File 48, Guidance on EN 54-13, looks at compatibility and integrity assessment of system components. The standard is part of the EN 54 series of standards dealing with fire detection and alarm systems and calls for the testing of a system so there is full functional compatibility of its components.
Fact File 49 gives an overview of the changes to EN 50130-4 Alarm systems. Electromagnetic compatibility, Product family standard, and EN 50130-5, ‘Alarm systems. Environmental test methods’. The revisions of both standards were adopted in May 2011, leading to the publication of BS EN 50130-4/5:2011 in August 2011 and the previous versions being withdrawn.
